What is my zodiac sign if I was born on a cusp date?

The Sun changes signs at an exact astronomical moment, not at midnight. Because of leap years, that moment sometimes falls on one calendar day and sometimes on the next, which is why different tables may show slightly different cutoff dates. If you were born on the first or last day of a date range (the so-called cusp), the calculator will show you both possibilities. For a definitive answer, you need your birth year, time, and place: your personal Birth Chart Book calculates your Sun's position to the exact degree, along with your Ascendant, Moon sign, and all the planets.

By the way, you can also calculate your Ascendant for free. It describes how you come across to others and requires your birth time and birthplace in addition to your date of birth. The Astro Bite Your Big Three interprets your Sun, Moon, and Ascendant together in just a few chapters.

Once you know your sign, the free Yearly Horoscope 2027 covers the year month by month for all twelve signs, the star sign compatibility guide shows which signs are a good match for yours, and the Birthday Horoscope Book interprets your personal new year from one birthday to the next.

Frequently Asked Questions About Star Signs

What is my star sign?

Your star sign (more precisely, your Sun sign) is determined by the sign the Sun was in on your birthday. All you need is your day and month of birth: enter both in the calculator above and you'll see your sign right away. Only on cusp days does the birth year and exact time also come into play.

What Are the Dates for All Twelve Star Signs?

Aries 21 March to 19 April, Taurus 20 April to 20 May, Gemini 21 May to 20 June, Cancer 21 June to 22 July, Leo 23 July to 22 August, Virgo 23 August to 22 September, Libra 23 September to 22 October, Scorpio 23 October to 21 November, Sagittarius 22 November to 21 December, Capricorn 22 December to 19 January, Aquarius 20 January to 18 February, Pisces 19 February to 20 March.

Why Do Star Sign Dates Shift by a Day from Year to Year?

The Sun doesn’t change signs on a fixed calendar date. It changes at an exact astronomical moment, which can fall late in the evening one day or early the next morning, depending on leap years. That’s why tables may show sign boundaries that differ by one day. If you were born right on a boundary, your birth year and time are needed to determine your Sun sign accurately.

What Does It Mean to Be “Born on the Cusp”?

The cusp is the boundary between two signs. Anyone born on the first or last day of a sign's date range is so close to the changeover that, depending on the year and time of birth, the Sun may still be in the previous sign or already in the next. A birth chart calculates the Sun's position to the exact degree and answers the question with certainty.

Star Sign and Constellation: Are They the Same Thing?

No. Astrology works with the tropical zodiac: twelve equal segments of 30° each, beginning at the vernal equinox. The constellations in the night sky, by contrast, vary in size and have shifted relative to the zodiac signs over time due to the precession of the Earth's axis. Your star sign therefore describes the Sun's position within the zodiac, not the visible constellation.

What Does My Star Sign Say About Me?

Your Sun sign describes one core note of your personality, but it is only one of many factors. Your Ascendant, Moon sign, and the positions of all the planets make your birth chart uniquely yours. For a truly meaningful mirror for self-reflection, it is worth looking at the whole picture: your personal Birth Chart Book interprets all these factors together.

Your star sign is just the beginning

Your Sun, Moon, Ascendant, and all the planets together make up your unique birth chart, personally calculated and warmly interpreted, as a book, digital or printed. For yourself or as a gift.
