Depending on your time zone, the exact time of the stations falls on the 13th or 14 November, which is why both dates are given. The retrograde phase lasts around six weeks in total. The last Venus retrograde was a while ago, in spring 2025. After this one, it will be about a year and a half before it happens again.
What happens when Venus is retrograde?
As with Mercury retrograde, Venus does not actually reverse its orbit. Retrograde motion is an optical effect. Venus orbits inside Earth’s orbit and regularly overtakes us on the inside track. During this passing phase, it appears from Earth to move backward against the background of stars for a few weeks.
Astronomically, this phase is especially fascinating: Around the middle of it, Venus passes between Earth and the Sun, shifting from one stage to another. It goes from the bright Evening Star in the western sky to the Morning Star in the east. If you see Venus in the evening in September, then suddenly spot it before sunrise in December, that’s what has happened in between.
